PlayBlue is about to have stores, an online business, a quick commerce operation, and a burn rate - and no finance function to hold it together. You're going to build that function from the ground up: the controls, the close, the compliance, the models the board and the CFO run the business on. Retail finance is unforgiving on margins and working capital, and you'll own all of it. If building finance from zero at a company that's actually scaling is what you want, read on.
What you'll own
Set up the engine. GL, AP, AR, payroll, month-end close - you'll stand up processes that are accurate and on time from the first month, plus startup-appropriate internal controls that don't slow the business down. As we grow, you make them scale.
Own planning and the numbers behind decisions. You'll lead budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning across stores and e-commerce, and turn it into real insight - store profitability, category margins, capex ROI on new formats. When leadership needs to know whether a store or a category is working, that answer comes from you.
Keep us compliant and funded. You'll manage GST and statutory compliance, audits, tax planning, and risk across states (Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi NCR). You'll watch cash flow, working capital, vendor financing, and banking relationships. And you'll build the models and metrics that make us credible in an investor room - fundraising readiness is part of the job, not an afterthought.
Build the MIS leadership actually uses. Store P&L, burn rate, working capital, capex, KPI performance - dashboards for the CFO and executive team that tell the truth about where the business is.
What we're looking for
8-12+ years in finance leadership in retail, consumer goods, or omnichannel - and you've built finance processes from the ground up, not just run ones already in place. Startup or scale-up experience matters here. CA, MBA in Finance, or equivalent, with strong command of accounting standards (Ind AS) and GST. You're comfortable in ERP and finance systems, budgeting tools, and data visualisation, and you lead people and work across Retail Ops, HR, and Marketing without friction. Strategic when it's the model and the board; in the weeds when it's the close.
